EXCELLENT Based on 390 reviews bill genovaMarch 22, 2025. Arrived in short order on time. Knowledgable and corrected problem directly. Also educated me to feature on the door that I wasn't aware of. Arnold YudellMarch 21, 2025. I recently had Garage Door Geeks fix my garage door. The service was exceptional. Not only did the repair man fix the bent track, but he went the extra mile - he made sure that all the rubber seals fit tightly against the door and then reminded me that I should be greasing the wheels and tracks annually and showed me where I should be putting the grease and oil. SusanMarch 14, 2025. I just wanted to leave an updated review about the fantastic service Garage Door Geeks provides. I had a laneway door installed two years ago and it's been working great ever since. But this recent winter snowstorm we had was the biggest test so far. For some reason the door wasn't shutting properly, but with one phone call they were able to fix it immediately! They obviously know their product really well and are able to troubleshoot and solve the problem - with just a phone call. So glad to have worked with this company. Every interaction has been professional and prompt. Would definitely recommend! Adam DeunkMarch 10, 2025. So quick & easy to get ahold of and work with! The technician, Pavel, who was sent to check out our faulty garage door was friendly and helpful. I didn't realize I could be so excited about a smooth/quiet garage door. Kaveh MousapourMarch 9, 2025. Fil LabordeMarch 7, 2025. Amazing service and people that care. Garage door fixed ! John MutchMarch 6, 2025. Victor ShermanMarch 5, 2025. I needed my garage door fixed quickly as I wasn’t able to open it and my car was stuck inside. I contacted Garage Geeks and they were able to send somebody almost right away. Pavel came by two hours later and very quickly diagnosed and fixed the issue. He was very professional and gave some great advice on maintenance going forward. I would recommend Garage Geeks in a split second to anybody that is requiring service on their garage door. Craig SmithMarch 1, 2025. They did a really nice job replacing a Barn Door on our detached garage with a roller door. It was not an easy job given the unique size of the garage and unlevel floor. However, from the first interaction to the last, they were very knowledgeable and professional. This included being very flexible rescheduling appointments due to the recent snow storms. We are very pleased! Susan DoeFebruary 27, 2025. Quick response when I sent a booking request. They came the next day and their installer repaired the issue perfectly. Thank you.

Different Types of Garage Door Spring
Before making your appointment with us, our garage service team will ask what type of garage door spring needs replacing.
There are 2 major types of garage springs that we replace:
Torsion Spring
A garage door torsion spring is the most common type of spring found on modern garage doors. Depending on the size of your garage door, you may have 1 or 2 of these springs placed above the door frame. Torsion springs store energy when wound tightly, releasing it to facilitate smooth opening and closing.
At Garage Door Geeks, our technicians have many years of experience replacing torsion springs with precision to get your garage door back on track. Our parts and service are covered under warranty, and our replacement springs are manufactured in Canada.
Extension Springs
Extension springs are commonly found in older garage door systems and are not so common with modern doors. Older, one-piece garage doors often rely on extension springs for counterbalance.
At Garage Door Geeks, we have the necessary skills and experience to replace extension springs, offering expert solutions to ensure the smooth functioning of your garage door.
Over 15 years in business, we have delivered spring replacement on countless single-panel garage doors – and we have access to older extension springs that are no longer in production. These springs are sometimes referred to as “old style garage door springs“.

Spring Replacement - Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to replace garage door springs?
For service in the GTA, we charge around $150 + HST for the spring replacement service. This cost could be affected by factors such as your location, so always get in touch with us beforehand for a FREE QUOTE.
For the replacement parts – a new garage door spring normally costs between $120 – $180. So with the cost of service, you can expect to pay between $270 – $350 for replacing springs.
Can I replace a garage door spring myself?
NO! Attempting to replace a garage door spring yourself is strongly discouraged due to the potential dangers involved. Garage door springs are under high tension, and mishandling can lead to serious injuries or property damage.
Professional expertise is crucial to ensure proper installation, balancing, and safety measures. Trusting a qualified technician ensures the job is done safely and effectively, providing peace of mind for you and your family.
How long do garage door springs last?
Garage door springs typically last about 7-10 years or 10,000 cycles. However, their lifespan can vary based on usage frequency, environmental conditions, and maintenance. Regular inspections and timely replacements ensure optimal performance, preventing unexpected failures and potential safety hazards.
At Garage Door Geeks we offer seasonal maintenance packages for your garage spring and entire garage door assembly. Contact us today for details.
What are the parts of a garage spring assembly?
Cable drums – Each cable drum is integral to the lifting mechanism, and is located at either end of the torsion bar. The drum serves as a spool for the lift cables, winding or unwinding them as the door operates. The diameter of the drums directly influences the door’s balance and movement.
Safety cables – are a crucial safety feature for doors with extension springs. The safety cable threads through the spring and holds it in place.
Pulley – Pulleys are placed along the garage door track for smooth operation of the door. They guide the movement of the lift cables, ensuring the door moves into place.
Lift cables – are strong cables that connect the bottom of the garage door to the cable drums, playing a critical role in the raising and lowering of the door.
Spring anchor bracket – is secured above the garage door as a fixed point for the torsion spring to anchor. This bracket ensures the system remains in place during operation.
Torsion Spring – is a crucial component that wraps around the torsion bar, utilizing torque to lift the garage door efficiently. Torsion springs have different length and diameter specs for different garage door weights.
Extension springs – the extension spring extends along the sides of the garage door to assist in opening and closing the door with spring tension.
Stationary Cone – is firmly placed at one end of the torsion spring, anchoring it to the spring anchor bracket to ensure stability.
Winding Cone – allows for the adjustment of spring tension. It is located at the opposite end of the garage door torsion spring – relative to the stationary cone.
How can I open a garage door with a broken spring?
If you need to open a garage door with a broken spring as a last resort, exercise extreme caution. Disengage the automatic opener by pulling the release handle or cord, typically hanging from the opener rail. This allows you to manually lift the door.
Use a sturdy object like a broom handle or a second person for support, lifting the door slowly and evenly. Keep in mind this is a temporary solution, which we do not recommend. Professional assistance is crucial for safety and proper repair.
