The Garage Door Cable - How it Works
The garage door cable acts as the “lifting arm” connecting the door to the garage door spring which delivers the opening and closing force. The garage door spring will wind or unwind and this turns the torsion spring shaft. The spring shaft then turns cable drums at top corners of the door. The garage door cables wind around these drums, leading to the bottom of the garage door – where they are fastened. The cable then acts like an arm – delivering the lifting force to the garage door and causing it to raise along the tracks.
The garage door cable is critical to the proper functioning of the garage door. If the garage door cable is malfunctioning or broken then your garage door won’t open properly.
